This is our weekend with Marcos and Elvia. We were at Cortez' palace for breakfast. It is just below Cocoyoc. ( The place we are going for the reunion!) What a beautiful weekend.
| This is part of an old original aqueduct. There is still water running over part of it. |
There were so many and it was fun. Dad and Marcos were so patient. We wandered for four hours.
Puebla was beautiful. It has more European influence than most Mexican cities.
Monday night was Family Home Evening! We always have a fun time. The couples take turns giving the lesson. Dad and I were in charge of Dessert. We got ice cream from Costco and strawberries and blueberries. They tasted great. Costco icecream is by far the best ice cream in Mexico.
Afterwards back at the hotel:
( Actually Sis. Heder just brought down chocolate chip cookies - so good!) We are all sitting here blogging. Sis.Griffin is excellent on the computer so she sits by me and helps me out. Spanish is hard for some people. Computer is my test.
Working diligently on our blogs. My helper is on my right! However, I have now put this together by myself. I just need to learn to do the artwork.
Dad and I went up to the Pueblito. We went into a frame shop so I could get some pictures framed. I want my little apt. to look a little more like home. That will take some work. Though I have to say, the air conditioner may not always work and the kitchen is only big enough for one person (barely) but the maid service is great! I even left my bed unmade today and came home to a beautiful bed made perfectly. Who cares about airconditioning and internet! Next we went to the Vegetable shop.
We even found the most beautiful "Cremeria." They had every kind of cheese you could even imagine.
Dad and I are so excited. We have talked to two taxi drivers that are talking to the missionaries. These just seemed so ready to have them. Both of them have big families. One has all married children with grandchildren that get together every Sunday. The other has a child who just died so they are ready for comfort. Work has been busy. I have already sent 40 missionaries this week. I have to say I've had some glitches. The hard thing is to fix my mistakes. With my computer abilities downloading files and transferring them just confuses me. Yes, I'm learning a lot! George is feeling more comfortable with his work as well. He really enjoys sitting in his long meetings. He said the time goes by quickly and they are so interesting. Right now Mexico is thinking of every possible way they can fight the marriage between gays law. They have people that really know the situation that talk to them. Also reviews with all the different committees. Dad has to take notes. He's getting good practice on listening! However Mexico turns out will probably influence the rest of Latin America. Dad had some good ideas after reading about Captain Moroni in the Book of Mormon. The Audio Visual Dept. came in today and asked him if he could give them ideas.
Last night we had a fun homemaking with our Spanish Ward. One of the young girls is going to cooking school. She made the most beautiful array of Spanish Food. We did have fun tasting it all and visiting. We get lots of walking in. We walked to and from the chapel. It is hilly around here so it is good exercise.
Tomorrow night I am making Elvia's Tortilla Soup and Mango, Cucumber, Avocado Salad. We're meeting with a couple of other couples after work. It was so delicious. I hope mine will taste the same. All the ingredients are fresh fruits and vegetables. I used whole tomatoes for the tortilla soup!
Not quite as good as Elvia's but we had fun anyway.
Saturday we are all getting up early and walking to a restaurant "El Cardenal." It is supposed to be one of the best. We will all walk down Palmas. It's a nice long walk. Then we will go to the Art Museum. Sat evening: The restaurant was great and so was the Art Museum. It was incredibly beautiful and really had some nice work in it.
This is the structure of the Art Museum. So different. Built with hexagonal shapes.
This is called "The Gates of Hell" Brought from Italy. George didn't really want his picture in front of it.
The Pieta: Actually someone made a replica and covered it with copper.
Absolutely some of the most beautiful work from ivory tusks. A whole floor of it!
All our dear friends here!
Afterwards we wandered around a beautiful mall that was close by. Sax Fifth Avenue was the anchor store! We found a great ice-cream shop. The first really good ice-cream we've found in Mexico besides Costco. There were also lots of other eating places that looked good. I thought I had found a bread store that had whole wheat bread and wanted to stop on the way home so we walked back. (If we'd take a cab we couldn't have stopped.) I kept laughing at Dad. He said his legs were so tired they were numb.We walked around for about 6 hours! ( We found the bread and anxiously came home to try it - it was terrible! We'll remember it longer because of it.
Friday evening we were so hungry for a good hamburger. We went down to a street nearby full of boutiques and eating places. They have a "Reubens." They had hamburgers and french fries and they tasted so good.
Tonight we went to the English Speaking Ward's closing social. Dad sang "Foolish Questions" for his talent. Each family in that little ward did a talent. It was cute to watch all the children participate.
I guess this will be all for this post. I love you all so much and anyone that wants to visit we know lots of fun places to go!

Wow! You guys are having such great experiences. You will get the computer thing down- and I bet it will be better than you think. I am going to start learning to blog as well. Amanda and I have come up with a schedule for writing for our blog- I am going to write about my (our) battle to keep the birds out of our garden. Thank you for writing! We love you and are so proud of you!
